Lost in (Black) Space

  • Elinor Bunin Monroe Film Center 144 West 56th Street New York, NY, 10019 United States (map)

We'd like for you guys to join us on May 5th to discuss a couple of things. I have a few really good friends from different backgrounds and age ranges that I would like to sit down and discuss their views and experiences on the topic of black masculinity. I would like to say that it's about the well being of black males in general, but that's too broad. This will be operated as a moderated group discussion as well.

Are you a feminist? Come through. Are you a black trans woman? Come through. Not black at all? Come through. All races, creeds, genders, and backgrounds are welcome. This is a learning and sharing opportunitiy for all of us

We'll be chopping it up about things like feminism, how we feel we are represented in the media and what we can do about it, our perception of our role in society, racial identity and how to frame and history and current context in a healthy and empowering way, myths about malehood vs the facts, our obstacles and what we're doing about them. I know that sounds broad, but come anyway.

There will be local visual art for sale via silent auction. You see a piece you like, you write the name of it on a form, your contact info, and an offer of how much you would be willing to pay for that piece. Don't feel pressure to be a baller, just engage and you'll be surprised.
